Pale Blue Dot
In 1990, the Voyager 1 spacecraft took a picture of the planet earth as it was leaving our solar system, at a distance of around 6 billion kilometers away. From this distance the Earth appeared to be nothing more than a pale blue dot in the great expanse of space. Carl Sagan, a famous American astronomer, requested that the Voyager 1 turn its focus back towards the Earth and take the picture. The narration in the above video is an excerpt from Carl Sagan's 1994 book "Pale Blue Dot."
